The Fulton County Police Department has announced a trove of new crime fighting equipment that police say will crack down on crime in a big way. On Sept. 24 the department will unveil the state-of-the-art weaponry in the LA Fitness parking lot at 6425 Old National Highway in College Park.

According to department representatives, crime in Fulton County, particularly robberies, has increased drastically. A release from District 7 Commissioner Bill Edwards notes that since the beginning of 2013, there have been a significant number of robberies in the Old National Highway Corridor – totaling 54 to date. That number includes the most recent robbery in the Old National Market Place where one man was robbed at gunpoint and sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The perpetrators got away with the victim’s wallet and $1,500 in cash.

The new equipment is designed to enhance SWAT team services during apprehensions, surveillance and rescues.

“We are so very proud of the men and women in the Fulton County Police Department who sacrifice their lives every day to ensure the safety of our residents,” said Edwards. “This equipment is the result of the willingness of the people in South Fulton to pay for their services.”

The equipment will also be on display at 1:30 p.m. in the Cascade Crossing Shopping Center (Publix parking lot) at 3695 Cascade Road, Atlanta, GA 30331 and at 4:00 p.m. in the Parkway Village (Publix parking lot) at 5370 Campbellton-Fairburn Road, Fairburn, GA 30213.
New equipment being unveiled will include:

Bearcat – The bearcat is an armored vehicle that will stop most commercially available ammunition found in the United States. The vehicle is used by the SWAT team to rescue citizens or police officers who may become isolated during an active shooter event. The vehicle is also used to transport the SWAT team safely almost anywhere in a live fire event.

Helicopter Flier System and Spotlight – The helicopter has been outfitted with a FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) system that can be used to find perpetrators fleeing a crime scene and or help locate lost children. A newly installed moving map system was installed as well. The moving map system overlays street names onto the computer screen of the FLIR system to help the helicopter better navigate when trying to locate perpetrators.
The spotlight works in conjunction with the FLIR System and shines bright light using the equivalent of 10 million candle power.

T3 Patrollers– T3 Patroller enables law enforcement officers to quickly respond to emergency situations during public events such as festivals, parades, concerts and sporting events where large crowds convene. The patroller is easy to operate and allow the user to maneuver well in restricted spaces as well as streets, sidewalks, parking facilities and venue interiors.

Delivery Vehicle – The delivery vehicle is used to deliver the SWAT team to the front door for the execution of a warrant. The vehicle can seat 18 fully equipped SWAT operators comfortably. It has large doors that can offload all 18 people in a matter of seconds and is used for hostage negotiators when dealing with barricaded subjects.

“This equipment enhances the services we provide not only to South Fulton but all of Fulton County. We are dedicated to ensuring our citizens are safe and this equipment helps us when combatting criminal activity,” said Fulton County Police Chief Cassandra Jones.
