DPG Chair calls for Sessions’ resignation and Special Investigation in to Trump Administration’s ties to Russia

Today, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair DuBose Porter issued a statement following the latest revelations that Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied under oath about his communications with the Russian government.

“Recusal from the investigations is not enough. Jeff Sessions lied under oath and must vacate his post as the nation’s top law enforcement officer. The American people must have full faith and confidence in the rule of law, and this confidence is deteriorating every day that Sessions serves as Attorney General. He should be the example of integrity, not the exception.
“Sessions was a top surrogate for the Trump campaign, and was then rewarded with a powerful position in Trump’s cabinet. He cannot be trusted to investigate himself, his boss, or his Republican colleagues.
“Every single member of Georgia’s Republican Congressional delegation should join their colleagues—including Congressman Darrell Issa and Senator Lindsey Graham—and demand a special prosecutor to investigate the Trump’s administration’s collusion with the Russian government. Georgians also deserve an independent, 9/11-style commission to fully investigate Russian interference in our elections. This administration’s never-ending onslaught of lies and cover-ups continues to tarnish the legitimacy of our government. What’s at stake is too big to put in the hands of Donald Trump and his top associates.”
