On Friday, Feb 17, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair DuBose Porter and First Vice Chair Nikema Williams formally endorsed Tom Perez for DNC Chair, issuing the following joint statement.
“Democrats are fortunate to have such a high caliber slate of candidates for DNC Chair. Each candidate has shown their commitment to building a better, stronger Democratic Party — together.
“While we did not take this decision lightly, we believe that Secretary Tom Perez is best suited for the monumental tasks ahead. He’s a proven fighter and organizer. As a member of the Obama Administration, Secretary Perez led the charge to restore and expand the Civil Rights division of the Department of Justice, notably prosecuting the first cases under the Shepard-Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act and expanding hate crimes protections to include women and the LGBTQ community. As Secretary of Labor, Tom Perez fought for American workers on paid leave, overtime rules, and a fair living wage.
“Of note, Secretary Perez has made a commitment to the return of the fifty state strategy strengthening the Democratic Party from the ground up by strengthening state parties, recently using Georgia’s victories in Cobb and Gwinnett as examples.
“Secretary Perez has never shied away from a fight, and we need that fight brought straight to Donald Trump’s doorstep. He has the vision, he has the record, and he has our support to lead the DNC.”
