WestRock, a Fortune 500 company in the corrugated packaging industry, is relocating 800 employees in the Metro Atlanta region to the City of Sandy Springs, Fulton County. The company plans to occupy seven floors and up to 180,000 square-feet in the Northpark Town Center according the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Located at the corner of Abernathy Road and Georgia 400, the new center for WestRock will provide easy access to the Sandy Springs MARTA station for employees to use.
“This office will provide additional space for growth for our team and will enable us to enhance collaboration by co-locating key functions,” WestRock CEO Steve Voorhees said in a news release. “Access to MARTA and key transportation hubs will also benefit our employees in the region.”
According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the operations relocating to Fulton County include executive functions, commercial teams and other staff members.
Fulton County Chairman John H. Eaves congratulated WestRock on their re-location to the City of Sandy Springs and Fulton County. “This announcement is another testament to the economic vitality of Fulton County and the strength of its cities like Sandy Springs,” said Eaves. “It also reflects Fulton County’s leadership in Georgia by embracing mass transit early on which continues to be a major driver for companies locating, investing and creating jobs in the county.”
WestRock employs 39,000 people with more than 250 manufacturing facilities, design centers, research labs, and sales offices across the globe.
“The Sandy Springs area in Fulton County continues to be a leading destination for Fortune 500 companies,” said Commissioner Liz Hausmann, sponsor of Economic Development on behalf of the Board of Commissioners. “This is demonstrated by the continued investments from corporate headquarters like First Data, United Parcel Service (UPS) and Cox Enterprises.”
The WestRock move in addition to other recent announcements like the new Mercedes Benz Headquarters, currently under construction, reflects a continued preference of corporate re-locations for close proximity to mass transit.
