Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr…the beginning

That was the beginning of the massive national Civil Rights Movement that spread all over the country. Reverend King went on to become one of the greatest leaders the world has known.
The law throughout Southern states at that time was that there was a White section starting in the front of the bus, and Black section starting from the back. Blacks paid their fare, which was the same as Whites, up front to the driver then got off the bus and entered from the rear side door. Most were not allowed to walk through the White section to the Black section. If the White section filled Blacks in the front of the Black section had to give their seats up to Whites. This sometimes led to older Black women having to give their seats up to young White men.
After a long drawn out struggle with Blacks either walking to work or car-pooling, the city finally gave in to the demands of integrating the buses. With this spark, Rev. King and the Civil Rights Movement spread all over the South and throughout many states in the North demanding integration and equal rights for all citizens regardless of race or gender.
