A tall tree has fallen in the forest. Archie Coles, Sr. passed on November 8, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona. Born in Homestead, Pennsylvania, Archie was a family man with a strong faith in God. He was a proud veteran from one of the last legally segregated U.S. Army units, the 15th Infantry Regiment, a machinist at U.S. Steel with 41 years at Homestead Works, employed with the City of Phoenix Streets Transportation Department, an artist with the Artists of the Black Community and the Council of Black Artists in Phoenix, Arizona. He was also a volunteer with the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Desert West Community Center.
A celebration of life will be held on November 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Word of Abundant Life Christian Center 6849 West Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to either of the following tax exempt scholarship funds for deserving students:
