CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Former Charlotte, North Carolina, Mayor Patrick Cannon is expected to be released from prison this week.
Cannon pleaded guilty to public corruption and has been in the Morgantown, West Virginia, Federal Correctional Institution since Nov. 18, 2014, where he was to serve a sentence of nearly four years. The required time served has been reduced under various policies and incentives available for all federal prisoners.
Local news outlets report that Cannon is expected to be released this Thursday.
The FBI began its investigation in 2010, when Cannon was a member of Charlotte City Council.
