Style Week Pittsburgh celebrated its fourth year on Aug. 18 with a series of events designed to recognize the region’s most trailblazing artists, entrepreneurs, and innovators. The Pittsburgh fashionistas and those who love them came out to enjoy multiple events.
Wadria Taylor is the brains behind Pittsburgh Style Week and was proud to kick off the 2016 version of Style Week with FREESTYLE, a fashion show and exhibition taking place at the Carnegie Museum of Art. FREESTYLE explored the connection between the women’s rights movement and fashion in the 1920s and 1960s. FREESTYLE featured the work of local designers James Houk and Leesa Kassler as well as photographs from world-renowned photographer Teenie Harris.
On Friday, Aug. 19, the Style Awards were announced at Culture Restaurant. This year the public voted for their favorites via social media. The Style Week 2016 winners:
Best Individual Style—Mary Ann McCann; Designer of the Year––Nisha Blackwell; Salon of the Year—Dreamz Salon; Artist of the Year—Christian Diboko; Boutique of the Year—Gilded Girl; Stylist of the Year—Shawna Solomon; Fashion Blogger of the Year—Lisa Freeman; Photographer of the Year—Juan Carlos Silva; Makeup Artist of the Year—Danielle Mock; and Entrepreneur of the Year—Nicole Manns.
The week concluded with an “Energy” Dance Party at the Ace Hotel on Aug. 20 and an Artful Brunch on Sunday at Revel & Roost. Style Week Pittsburgh was created in 2013 to raise the profile of fashion focused brands in both the region and beyond.
