ATLANTA — Despite operating under a merciless and oppressive July sun, a sea of pink and white-draped Alpha Kappa Alpha members enthusiastically flooded the old Harwell Heights Park to pay homage to a venerated and dynamic former AKA president and christen the park in her name, the “Dr. Mary Shy Scott Park.”IMG_4268

The iconic Scott was a longtime Atlanta educator and motivational speaker who served as the 23rd International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. from 1990 to 1994. The ceremony took place during the AKA’s 67th bi-annual Boulé in Atlanta, which has attracted more than 20,000 members.
