Lifestyles Report…The small print

The high point of my day is eating lunch or taking in the mail. Some days it’s a toss-up. It depends on what I find in the mailbox. I have learned that you have to look at all mail very carefully, what appears to be junk mail might not be junk mail. I know this certain company designed this piece of mail to look like junk mail so it would not be read but I have learned my lesson. On the front of the mail it says
“Here is something to remember about your magazine service.” Then there were four points about magazines and the last two points: always recycle your magazines and then the most important point was “subscriber information on reverse.” So I turn it over and the print is really tiny.  After they thanked me for being a valued customer they informed me that two magazines (Essence and In Style) will keep coming to my house and I will be billed for $46 dollars for each unless I make a phone call by May14. I admit the subscription price is less than the newsstand price but that is almost $100 and I don’t feel like spending that right now. So I will make that phone call prior to the deadline.
I actually love both magazines however since Essence is no longer Black owned, it will be chopped along with In Style. Unfortunately Essence no longer moves me. The format seems to be different and the stories lack substance. So if I want to pick up one I will buy it from time to time at the drugstore.

Many of you who have been AT&T subscribers or are currently may have heard that there was going to be a “settlement” resulting from the resolution of the AT&T Mobility Wireless Data Services Sales Tax Litigation.  I never pay much attention to class action issues or the fact that I may be getting a check in the mail.  The other day the check arrived; it too looked like junk mail. Once again I think this was by design. Send it out with a look of junk and it will be ripped in half and tossed away. Therefore the check will not be cashed and the company will save money. I opened up the envelope and there was a real check inside, a real check for .24 cents. It actually cost more to mail it not to mention the paper it was printed on. According to the check if I don’t cash it within 180 of issuance it will be voided. So now I have to remember to put this check in my wallet and deposit it with the rest of my deposits or make a special trip to the ATM to make a deposit for .24.
How many ladies saw the segment on the Today Show about the dress companies that advertise on social media?  I ordered a few outfits from one of them. It has been reported that the dresses are a disaster. I can’t wait to give you a report.
