ATLANTA — “Hosea Helps,” in partnership with local pastors and community activists, will come together on Saturday, April 23, 2016 to sponsor a water donation drive to support the victims of the Flint water crisis. The water donation drive will take place from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the parking lot at Mount Carmel Baptist Church located at 2755 Campbellton Rd SW, Atlanta, GA 30311. Donations of water can be brought to the church.
The “Water for Flint Day from Atlanta” efforts support the victims in Flint and will be an all-out push to collect and deliver more than 79,560 bottles of water to aid in the relief efforts of those suffering due to lack of clean water. The water donation drive expects three 18-wheeler trucks that will deliver this gift of life to those who need it.  Each 18-wheeler will carry 17 pallets of water to the people in Flint with love from Atlanta. (There are 1,560 water bottles in one pallet). Therefore, every time a truck pulls up to deliver water, 26,520 bottles of clean drinking water will be on the truck.
Churches and other organizations are being recruited and urged to participate in the project with donations of water from their congregations. Churches are encouraged to donate one pallet of water. Everyone can contribute something!  Individuals are encouraged to donate a minimum of two cases of 24 bottles of water for this water donation drive. Water donations can be dropped off in the drive-thru lane in the back of the parking lot at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
The sponsors of this event include Mrs. Elisabeth Omilami, CEO of HOSEA HELPS (Hosea Feed the Hungry); Reverend Timothy Fleming, pastor of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Atlanta; Reverend Douglas Stower of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Atlanta; Bishop Jerome Dukes, senior pastor of Community Fellowship Christian Center International in Fayetteville, GA, and president of the Association of Christian Ministers of Clayton County; Mr. James Jones, founder of Simply United Together; Reverend Albert E. Love, founder of Voter Empowerment Collaborative;  and Mr. Yusuf Ali of AIM Steel International, who will provide the 18-wheeler trucks.
The donated water will be transported to its destination free of charge by American Logistics International, Inc. and delivered to Pastor Warrior of the Warrior International Foundation, 4905 Clio Road, Flint, Michigan 48504, for distribution to citizens in Flint.
Other supportive organizations for this event include The Urban League of Greater Atlanta, Bishop Kenneth Carter of the CME Churches of Georgia; Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority; CBS TV 46 and WAOK Radio (CBS Radio) are media sponsors; and the list is growing.
Mrs. Omilami and the participating pastors encourage everyone to come out and support this commendable cause. “It’s time that we band together as a global community to send not only our love, but our support to our brothers and sisters in Flint” says Omilami. “I’m thinking that a human being should be consuming 8 cups of water a day, which is 64 ounces; that means that a week’s worth of water for a person would be 448 ounces. Based on the 17 pallets per truck at 26,364 ounces per pallet, each truck will carry 448,188 ounces. The total amount of water on all 3 trucks will be 1,344,564 ounces. This means that the 3 trucks will carry enough water to serve 3001 people for a week.  These are the facts that make you realize that your bottle water will make a difference,” Omilami concluded.
Reverend Albert E. Love, better known in the Atlanta community for his work in voter registration says, “Water for Flint…From Atlanta with Love is a collaborative response led primarily by a cadre of Metro-Atlanta African-American pastors who felt motivated to assist the citizens in Flint, Michigan during their water crisis. The group saw a need, called a meeting, and developed an action plan to address the problem. The goal was to issue a clarion call to churches and send three 18-wheeler trailers of bottled water to Flint. The positive feedback from Atlanta’s churches has been uplifting and overwhelming. Clergy and other community stake holders checked their egos at the door, came to the table with prayer and a willingness to work, and pooled their resources, both human and financial, to get the job done. This is Atlanta at its highest level and in its best form.”
