GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Stupidity in the first degree helped lead to charges of murder in the first degree.
If proved true, yet another idiotic criminal could not resist the urge to show off the fruits or weapons used in a crime, and all officers had to do was look on social media to help procure arrests.
A suburban Atlanta teen’s posting of a gun on Facebook just hours before he and an accomplice allegedly murdered a pizza delivery man helped investigators quickly apprehend the suspects in Lawrenceville.
Reginald Lofton, 14, and Jermaine Young, 21, posted a photo on Facebook showing them holding the weapon with the serial numbers clearly visible.
Lofton and Young are being held without bail in the shooting death of Shane Varnadore, 28, who was delivering a pizza to the apartment complex. Officers executed a search and found a gun and magazine clip hidden in pancake mix boxes in the kitchen of the apartment.
Moreover, police also found three empty pizza boxes hidden behind a washer and dryer, instead of throwing the boxes away, which linked the two males to the murder.
After the suspects were arrested, they quickly sang to the officers on each other. Lead investigator in the case Gwinnett Police Detective Matthew Kenck interviewed Lofton and Young and stated, “There were several times during the interview when the facts changed, the story changed,” according to WXIA.
The two men are being charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery. Varnadore was the victim of a premeditated trap as the suspects lured to the apartment complex where the suspects lived and was shot and left for dead on the street.
Jermaine Young is being holed up in the Gwinnett County Detention Center. Reginald Lofto, who is being tried as an adult, is being held in a metro regional youth detention center.
