ATLANTA — The Barbershop: The Next Cut red carpet premiere at Regal Cinemas in Atlantic Station was punctuated by the city’s Mayor Kasim Reed bestowing the highest award, the Phoenix Award, to rapper-turned-filmmaker Ice Cube and beloved comedian Cedric the Entertainer for their contribution to making Atlanta one of America’s epicenters for cinematic arts.
The former NWA member and creator of the Friday and Ride Along franchises — in addition to the Barbershop franchise — has made several of his films in the city, helping to make Atlanta the third-largest hub for movie-making behind Los Angeles and New York.

Ice Cub and Cedric the Entertainer were joined at the premiere by “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Sheree Whitfield, who looked stunning and sexy in fashionably torn jeans, “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” star Momma Dee, actress-singer Demetria McKinney, reality star and celebrity hairstylist Derek J and comedian-writer Myra J, a “Tom Joyner Morning Show” alum. The premiere was hosted by “Ryan Cameron and Wanda Morning Show” co-host Wanda Smith.

Barbershop: The Next Cut, a Warner Bros. film, opens on April 15. It was produced by Ice Cube, directed by Malcolm Lee (best known for the ultra-successful Best Man franchise), and stars rappers Common, Nicki Minaj and Eve, as well as Regina Hall, Anthony Anderson, Garcelle Beauvias and Margot Bingham.
