Oscar- and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter John Legend got immersed in a bitter Twitter feud with the son of Donald Trump after the GOP presidential front-runner canceled his Chicago rally amid threats of further violence on the Trump stump.
The beef popped off between Legend and Donald Trump Jr after the billionaire baron’s son tweeted about Trump’s Friday cancellation.
“Ha 5 students when asked why they were protesting couldn’t even answer. The participation medal/micro aggression generation is pretty sad!” Trump Jr., 38, wrote.
Legend soon replied: “@DonaldJTrumpJr I think they were protesting your racist father. This isn’t complicated.”
Meanwhile Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, fired off shots in her husband’s defense: “Got em” she tweeted.
Some ignorant social media user got into the mix and tried to fire shots at Legend for stating his opinion. “@johnlegend @DonaldJTrumpJr – is John Legend that disgraceful? No education.”
He was unaware that Trump and Legend are alums of the same school of higher education. “Now we know John Legend is a racist who hates white people,” wrote another user.
There were others, of course, who got Legend’s back for pointing out Trump’s demagoguery and inflammatory statements, such as his stances on immigration and questionable remarks on women.
“Thank you for speaking up. Scary that so many in public eye are letting him get away w/ this without calling it for what it is,” shared another user. In response, Trump Jr. said, “Here we go again. That can’t be the answer for everything you don’t like. That’s why the country is so divided now!”
