Cheyenne police department says it’s not biased

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) _ The Cheyenne Police Department says its officers are not affected by biases while on the job.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/21dnost ) that according to data released by the department Wednesday, the demographics of Cheyenne match with the racial breakdown of those who were issued citations or involved in issues where police had to use force.
Of the more than 9,000 citations issued in 2017, 78 percent went to people who identify as white, 15 percent went to Hispanic people and 5 percent went to Black people. In incidents where force was used, 71 percent of people who were arrested were white, 17 percent were Hispanic and 7 percent were Black.
According to U.S. Census data from 2010, Cheyenne’s population is 78 percent white, 15 percent Hispanic and 3 percent black.
