ATLANTA — As state lawmakers return to Gold Dome to begin the 40-day session of 2016, a new newspaper poll reveals that a majority of Georgia voters desire favorable action on casino gambling, medical marijuana and “religious liberty.”
The poll was conducted by the national firm Abt SRBI for
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The poll revealed the following specifically:
- 62 percent of registered voters favor legalizing casino gambling to help subsidize the HOPE scholarship;
- 72 percent say Georgia should create a medical marijuana harvest and distribution system.
- 53 percent believe lawmakers should pass a so-called religious liberty bill;
- 39 percent support “merit pay” for teachers.
The poll was conducted in January telephone poll of 977 adult Georgians, including 853 registered voters. The margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
