Lifestyles Report…Shopping out of the box

I started my Black Friday shopping by buying Black at the Ujamaa Collective. My good friend, Carol Adams, was along for the trip. I wanted to get there early, as instructed by their Facebook invite; only the first 10 people would get a 10 percent discount on the beautiful African skirts. I didn’t buy a skirt, but I got a pair of mudcloth pants that I have wanted for a long time.
Did I mention what a beautiful day Black Friday was this year? It was just perfect for shopping Next stop was the Costume Shop in the Strip District, I needed a mask for the Billy Strayhorn Masquerade Birthday Party. I found a parking spot right in the front of the store and was prepared to pay for my parking, but the parking was free for the holiday. We were free to move around the Strip without watching the time. I picked out a mask, with Carol’s help, and now it was time to eat.
The Strip was pleasantly crowded; people in a good mood the day after thanksgiving and there were bargains galore. We found scarfs, ponchos, toys and live wreaths for $3. People please don’t forget about our great Strip District. The fresh fruit, vegetables, coffee, cheese and the atmosphere is second to none.
We were finished shopping and heading to the car when I decided to show Adams one of my new favorite stores. It is called Fourteen and it is located on Butler Street. This is a very trendy store and the owner/buyer has a great fashion sense.  There are a lot of stores and restaurants on Butler Street, a lot to explore. Put your walking shoes on and check it out.
So here is the deal on the free parking. It is actually a Free All Day Saturday Holiday Parking program effective Nov. 17-Dec. 22.   You can see which garages offer the deal by visiting www.downtownpittsburgh.com
Vehicles must enter the garage after 12 a.m. on Saturday and exit by 11:59 p.m. to qualify for free parking.  Vehicles entering or exiting outside these times are subject to posted rates for duration of stay. This special gives you the opportunity to see a performance, check out a new restaurant or shop in the Market Place, in Market Square. Do something different.
