by KELZ
On Saturday, November 7th, the Chicago Academy of Music will present the premier debut of the Creative Art Music Orchestra composed and conducted by Managing Creative Director, Kahil EL´ Zabar on behalf of CAM for its 1st fundraiser, Elevation: A Music, Art & Fashion Benefit at Block 37, 108 N. State St., Chicago. Latin, Jazz, and Classical performances will take place, which will include some of the conservatory’s master and guest instructors: Victor Garcia, Stephen Burns, Corey Wilkes, Baabe Irving, Ernest Dawkins, Ernie Adams, Kuang Hao Huang, Junius Paul and many more.
CAM is the first of its kind in Chicago, a city known for its intentional separation of races. So much of the art and culture that has evolved out of Chicago has much to do with the segregation allowing each group to hone and develop its own unique expression through music from its distinctive cultural influence and context thus strengthening its individual identity.
The Chicago Academy of Music Conservatory is an artistic collective of master performers and teachers committed to embodying, inspiring, and awakening a passion for creativity in music breaking down walls and barriers of creative expression allowing for the collaborations of artists that represent a spectrum of cultures, ethnicities, countries etc.
The Chicago Academy of Music Conservatory offers exceptional musical training to both children and adults throughout the city. The unique curriculum and pedagogy allows highly accomplished professional musicians to share their extraordinary talents with both gifted and beginner students in the city. “Simply put, we are prodigy finders,” says Robert Irving, lll, affectionately known as ‘Baabe’ CAM’s Dean of Contemporary and producer of three Grammy Award nominated albums, two of which were for Miles Davis. The goal of CAM is to nurture and activate a desire for excellence in every student.
“Our mission is to transform the student into a globally conscious cultural citizen with developed skills. The study and performance of music brings heightened values and the ability to pursue excellence in every aspect of life,” says Kahil.
