Morrow, Ga —  Clayton State University in the south Atlanta suburb will host the 7th Annual Diversity and Leadership Conference (DLC) with pre-conference sessions Thursday, October 1 and general sessions Friday, October 2.
CNN and MSNBC Education Contributor Dr. Steve Perry, who is the founder and principal of Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, CT, will serve as one of the keynote speakers. Perry’s school has been cited by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top schools in the nation.
Also delivering a keynote address will be Julissa Arce, Director of Public Affairs at Define America. Arce immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico at age 11 and was undocumented for almost 15 years, including some of her years rising to prominence on Wall Street. She co-founded the Ascend Educational Fund, a scholarship for immigrant students regardless of their immigration status. Arce was officially sworn in as an American citizen last August.
The purpose of the DLC is to engage people of diverse backgrounds and experiences in critical thinking exercises to enhance self-awareness, leadership skills, and multicultural competency. The hope is that participants will apply this information in their workplace, classroom, and social settings.
