Ty Dolla $ign made his way through Detroit Monday promoting his new single “Blasé album “Free TC.”
In an exclusive interview he said, “My album is bigger than just good music to ride out to and party.” The album has more purpose, as it is dedicated to his brother TC who currently in prison. “He’s lock[ed] away in prison for something he did not do.” He goes on to say, “We all are approached with injustice and I am trying to bring more awareness with my power and light.”
He references innocent, unarmed African Americans who have fallen due to violence and racism. “It’s messed up when people abuse their authority, from the judge to the bouncer. At the end of the day anyone can lose his or her life,” he said. When it comes to the Black Lives Matter movement, Ty Dolla $ign said, “We need to focus on it more, anything you put your mind to, you can do.”
Ty Dolla $ign remembers when he first began perusing his career, “I came from the back of my grandmother’s house and all my lil’ homies like YG and DJ Mustard who wasn’t doing beats at the time he was just a DJ.” He’s passionate about those who are struggling to stay strong. “I’ve seen some of my homies say I am going to quit and I call them and say no you’re not, as long as I am living you are not.”
Ty Dolla $ign also visited Franklin-Wright Settlements with fellow artists Sino, Trick Trick and Senator Bert Johnson, among others. They encouraged the teens to stay positive, remain focused on their education and to stay out of trouble.
“There’s Pandora, Tidal, Apple Music, but I would hope that you all go to the store and buy my album,” said Ty Dolla $ign. And after listening to an exclusive preview of the album, I suggest the same. “Free TC” has a variety of sounds, filled with various emotions. It’s definitely worth going to purchase at the store.
