Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott was arrested in Georgia last Thursday morning for possession of marijuana and MDMA (Molly). Scott told police that all the drugs seized from the vehicle in which he was a passenger belonged to him. Now he faces felony drug charges, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
A report released by the Banks County Sheriff’s office says that Scott, along with his brother Antonn Scott, were pulled over on I85 for following too closely to other vehicles. Their vehicle failed to stop as it traveled for nearly two miles and reached a speed of almost 100 mph.
Deputies found more than an ounce of marijuana and 10.9 grams of MDMA. The two men were arrested and 27-year-old Scott was charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule I drug. His brother was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement officers, following too closely, felony possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule I drug. Mike had a bond of $8,100, and Antonn posted a $9,300 bond. The two bonded out late Thursday night. A court date is pending.
Scott told police that his brother did not immediately pull over because he was on his cell phone and unaware of the traffic stop. Antonn told police that he did not use drugs, according to the incident report. “We are aware of the situation involving Mike Scott this morning,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “Out of respect for the legal process, we will not have any additional comment at this time.”
Since the NBA does not have to wait until the legal process is concluded, Scott could face disciplinary action from the league pending its own investigation. Scott joined the NBA as a second-round draft pick out of Virginia in 2012. He re-signed last year for three seasons, and is scheduled to make $3.3 million next season.
