STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Hundreds of Confederate battle flag supporters rallied on the very place that used to be a Ku Klux Klan stronghold in previous generations for what they termed a “peaceful” rally in support of their heritage.
There were a few terse moments when KKK members who showed up were shunned and actually told by the crowd “Go away KKK”.
Another tense episode popped off when non-white counter-protesters made what they believed to be disparaging remarks and called the crowd racist and, what almost started a fight, one of the counter-demonstrators stepped on one of the Confederate flags, 11 Alive reported.
Despite the spate of insults hurled back and forth, the Stone Mountain police reported no violence and no arrests.
