Gov. Snyder signed a bill last week that will prolong job-training programs across the state.
“Employers grow and come to Michigan because of our skilled workforce,” said Snyder. “Programs that help workers develop the skills they need will continue to make our workforce the best in the nation and accelerate economic growth.”
The Michigan New Jobs Training Program, sponsored by senator Darwin Booher, will specifically extend funding to community colleges that partner with local business in an attempt to assist those in need of job training. The bill previously slated to end on 2018 is prolonged till 2023.
Introduced initially in 2010, at least a dozen community colleges have taken part in the program.
The new law takes effect immediate, and is now Public Act 130 of 2015. Despite a recent increase in state minimum wage, the bill clarifies the criteria for defining of the state minimum wage under the program guidelines.
