As the country gets immersed and sidetracked by the frivolous debate on the Confederate Flag in South Carolina, the real reasons for unending urban decay, disenfranchisement and disillusionment continue to fester and spread like cancer.
One of the reasons is crystallized in this single video of five neighborhood bullies and gangsters beating down a defenseless schoolboy because … he had the audacity to get good grades in school.
Someone shot a cell phone video and uploaded it after a boy who made his school’s honor roll was pummeled on his way home from school. The savage beating on the boy, who didn’t fight back, occurred June 4 in proximity to Martin Luther King High School in West Oak Lane.
Soon after the cellphone video was uploaded, which caught fire on social media to the tune of millions of views, the police got wind of it and arrested the five males.
NBC10 in Philadelphia says the person who shot the video claims it was because the boy got good grades, but the arrested suspects claim it was a case of mistaken identity from a previous fight. According to police, when the teens asked the boy if he had been part of that fight earlier, he said ‘no,’ but they beat him down anyhow, which makes no sense.

The victim suffered a concussion, black eye and dental injuries that will require surgery, detectives said.. The five males have been charged robbery, aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, theft and related offenses.
This video makes you rethink the priorities of urban America. Taking down Confederate Flags is not the panacea to the multitude of problems besieging our community from all angles. Reducing self-hatred and promoting scholastic excellence that lead to increased opportunities and better paying jobs is a start.
