HOUSTON — The systematic and wholesale demolition of the Houston Rockets by gunslinger Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals was historic as it was humiliating.
Curry, who has challenged LeBron James for the title of the game’s most complete player and most charismatic, must-see personality, detonated on Rockets with a record-breaking ascent into the record books while simultaneously leaving James Harden and his Rockets completely hapless, helpless and haggard.
Though Curry started out slow, he powered the G-State locomotive through the Rockets’ hometown with 40 points, setting a playoff record for 3-pointers made overall as well as for triples made in consecutive playoff games (five) as the Warriors gutted the Rockets 115-80 that was even worse of a beating than the final score.
Harden, who finished second to Curry in the MVP voting, was a non-factor that rivaled the incompetency of his lethargic teammates. He finished with an anemic 17 points on a putrid 3-for-17 shooting that matched the team’s 34 percent shooting.
The team’s overall pathetic performance cannot be quantified. And, as the face of the Rockets’ franchise, Harden took the brunt of the social media barrage of ridicule and blame.
