Democratic Women of The South Suburbs sponsors 2015 Youth Democracy Lobby Day for outstanding high school girls

Matteson, IL- The Democratic Women of the South Suburbs are sponsoring the 2015 Youth Democracy Lobby Day on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. 50 girls chosen from Bloom, Crete-Monee, HillCrest, Marian Catholic, Rich Central, Thornridge and Thornton will travel to the Illinois State Capital in Springfield, Illinois for the free one day event that will help them develop leadership skills in communication, networking, decision making and critical thinking.
Donna Miller, President of Democratic Women of the South Suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, spoke on the goal of this event: “Our goal is that this event will empower the young women to emerge as influential voices in their communities, said Donna Miller, President of . We will encourage them to enlarge their perspectives and through mentorship and interaction with women in government, sharpen the skills they will need to become leaders in the 21st century” Mrs. Miller continued.The young women will meet with members of the Illinois General Assembly and local government.
The 50 girls chosen from South Suburban high schools will have a unique opportunity to witness firsthand how Illinois government works. Other highlights of this event will include:
· Illinois State Treasurer Mike Frerichs will address the group at lunch.
· Illinois State Senator Toi Hutchinson will convene Illinois female legislators to speak to the group.
· Illinois State Senator Michael Hastings will meet with the group.
· Illinois State Representative Will Davis will escort the group to the House Floor and address the group.
