Social media ripped into actor and activist Isaiah Washington, who came to fame via “Grey’s Anatomy,” when he foolishly suggested that Chris Rock “adapt” to racial profiling by trading in his luxury whip for a non-conspicuous vehicle such as a Prius. That way, so goes the reasoning, the superstar comedian won’t be pulled over by the police anymore.
Rock’s social media documentation of being pulled over three times in the last two months, despite no infractions of the law, has cause a national firestorm and reignited the debate surrounding racism and the police penchant for chronic racial profiling of black men on the road, regardless of socioeconomic status.
Rock has said in previous stand-up acts that he lives in predominantly white Alpine, New Jersey, the tony neighborhood that Mary J. Blige, Jay Z and Diddy have also called home. Rock did not say where he was when he was pulled over.
When Washington, who was fired from “Grey’s Anatomy” for uttering a homophobic slur to a cast member in 2007 and quickly went broke, suggested that the funny man acquiesce or silently tolerate flagrant racism, social media peeled Washington’s backside with biting commentary under the hashtag #TweetLikeIsaiahWashington and posted similar sentiments on Instagram.
