What do a vintage streetcar, a stainless steel automobile and the men of Kappa Alpha Psi have in common? They all could be found at the Senator John Heinz History Center on Feb. 14 at the 24th Annual Valentines Extravaganza sponsored by the Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund of Western Pa.
Despite the cold and snowy night, hundreds made their way to Smallman Street to enjoy a beautiful evening that began with a cocktail reception on the main floor. The History Center displays were the perfect backdrop for fun and photos. Guests enjoyed entertainment by Kevin Howard and Teejay the Deejay before and after dinner. A brief program during the dinner hour featured 2012 KSEF Award Recipient Ira Johnson.
He spoke of how important the KSEF scholarship has been to his education. Howard Russell, KSEF president, said he felt it was important for people to see and hear from the recipients of the scholarships, to actually see where the proceeds of the dinner and the KSEF events are going. Russell said the KSEF scholarships assists with putting the tools in the toolbox of youth.
KSEF has been the conduit in providing scholarships valued at over $1.5 million dollars to over 110 students since its inception.
