Taraji P. Henson's and Terrence Howard's 'Empire' on Fox Shatters Ratings Records

Not even the principal players of the TV phenomenon “Empire,” Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard, could have seen this coming.
No other show in the history of Nielsen’s People Meters has grown its viewership for five consecutive weeks after its premiere. Granted, Nielsen updated its system in 1991 and comparisons can only go back to that date, but the record could possibly go back further.
What can’t be debated is this fact: “Empire’s” audience since it debut has grown from 9.9 million viewers to 10.3 million, then 11.1 million, 11.4 million, 11.5 million and most recently 11.9 million viewers, respectively.
That has never happened before, according to the Nielsen Ratings.
Here’s another stunning aspect to “Empire’s dominance on Wednesdays. The lead-in show, “American Idol,” is posting the lowest ratings in the history of the long-running show.
