Detroit Entrepreneur Week 2015

DEWFBCoverShotA collaborative of resource providers has joined forces in helping Detroit’s small business owners. Instead of hosting another workshop, or panel of talking heads, Detroit Entrepreneur Week 2015 is a free,  intensive 5-day event which includes interaction with some of Detroit’s top influencers, thought leaders and resource providers.
Detroit Entrepreneur Week will be held Feb. 10-14 with weekday morning sessions at Focus: HOPE Center for Advanced Technologies (1400 Oakman Blvd.) and an all-day Small Business Legal Academy on Feb. 14 organized by some of Detroit’s leading law firms and legal departments at the Wayne State University Law School (471 W. Palmer). “These dedicated professionals are committed to aiding the revitalization of the City and region by providing useful ideas and direction to early stage entrepreneurs to help them take their businesses to the next level of performance.”  Thomas Linn, Coordinator of the Academy and Chair Emeritus of Miller Canfield.
Participating organizations and event sponsors include the Wayne Alumni Law Group, SCORE Detroit, ProsperUS Detroit, FoodLab Detroit, the Center for Empowerment and Economic Development (CEED) and Build Institute to name a few.
“Navigating Detroit’s entrepreneurial ecosystem can be a bit daunting for a busy entrepreneur,” said Leslie Smith, president and CEO of TechTown Detroit. “As a partner in Detroit Entrepreneur Week, we see a clear need to remove hurdles and connect entrepreneurs with our robust network of support resources. In many cases, this is the first step down the path to sustainable growth.”
This is not an event for aspiring entrepreneurs. Rather, sessions have been designed for existing business owners with higher-level questions and issues. Sessions will range from sales and marketing to different approaches to lending featuring a panel of a variety of finance sources. “There are numerous resources and events for start-ups and aspiring entrepreneurs,” said Robin Kinnie, Communications Manager at CEED. “We want to be part of the growth strategy for those businesses who are home-based, have hit a plateau or simply aren’t aware of resources available for businesses already in operation”.
The final day will feature an all-day Small Business Legal Academy held at Wayne State University Law School. All-day agenda includes panel discussions ranging from Intellectual Property, Marketing Issues and Funding Issues to information for social entrepreneurs and nonprofits. The day will also feature “Ask a Lawyer” sessions where participants can meet one-on-one with legal professionals representing different law firms across metro Detroit.
