This is the first edition of “In My travels” for 2015. I’m sure you have noticed “IMT” does not always involve traveling outside of the city just the things I have observed in my daily life.
How many of you have seen the commercials for Golden Corral; the ones that tell you that you may take home six yeast rolls after the purchase of a dinner? That commercial had me rolling on the floor. They finally caught on. So many people were stuffing those rolls in their purse that they turned it into an ad campaign. I have not been to the Golden Corral since my mother went into the nursing home two years ago, but those rolls were everyone’s favorite. Last time I was there they only brought two rolls to the table. Now you get six rolls to take home. Well how many do you get to eat while you are there? I might have to stop in one night and check it out.
Depending on when you go to the Golden Corral some of the food can be tasty. Sunday after church is not for me, too crowded. I’ll do a little research and get back to you on those rolls. One thing I really want to know is why people stuff food in their purses from the buffet. It’s not all you can take it is an all you can eat while seated in the restaurant. I’m just saying.
At a recent Toastmasters meeting, during one of our “Table Topics” sessions, I asked someone if they asked for what they really wanted for Christmas and to explain to me why or why not. “Table Topics” is a segment of the meeting where the members practice speaking on their feet on whatever topic they are given. The member who volunteered to answer the question said that he created his own gift registry on Amazon. He put all of the things that he wanted on the registry: a six foot ladder, sweaters and a compressor. It sounds like he got almost everything he wanted.
I love this idea, I’m going to create a registry for my birthday and for Christmas; just the thought of it excites me. I think you can let people know where you are registered, and then tell your friends and family. There are a lot of independent web sites where you can register your gift list.
The question is, are you bold enough to do it? Don’t be the whimp who says, “oh whatever you give me is ok, it’s the thought that counts” and then throws the gift in the dumpster. Claim your gifts now.
This year I’m looking for new events to cover. When you have your event booked at the venue then it is time to send your request for coverage. Please use the email below and in the subject line write, “request for coverage”; it’s simple and it works. If I don’t reply to your first email, resend. Please do not send them via Facebook, it will get lost.
