Suburban Atlanta could be picked as the new U.S. headquarters for Mercedes-Benz as early as Tuesday, insiders divulged to the media.
Officials associated with the luxury car brand have been seriously scouting the Perimeter Mall area, NewJersey.com and AJC reports, even as the state of New Jersey continues to try to make appetizing offers to keep the German automaker there.
Atlanta is in a three-city race to woo Mercedes, which could bring as much as 1,000 jobs to the region along with the prestige of housing a world-class car company.
Mercedes is waiting to break the news to its employees of its possible move to another state or retention of Montvale, N.J., before sharing the news with the media.
As it stands, Atlanta is “elbowing in the paint” in its efforts to get Mercedes with a couple of cities in North Carolina, multiple media outlets have reported.
