Former NFL Star Darren Sharper Faces Life in Prison Over Alleged Rapes

Former NFL defensive back Darren Sharper is being held on $2.5 million bond after being indicted for allegedly pulling a “Bill Cosby” — drugging and raping a number of women southern Louisiana. He faces life in prison if convicted.
Sharper, a former Pro Bowl safety with the New Orleans Saints, has been indicted on two counts of aggravated rape from a September 2013 incident, and another charge of simple rape of another woman last August.
Sharper is accused of sexually assaulting two impaired women. Two acquaintances of Sharper’s were also charged  with multiple counts.
Sharper’s problems don’t end there. He has been holed up in a Los Angeles County jail since February while awaiting separate charges of drugging and raping women in the L.A. area. In total, Sharper is accused of drugging and raping nine women in five states, including women in suburban Phoenix, Las Vegas and Florida.
Because of the strict laws in Louisiana, Sharper’s life as a free man could be over. The maximum sentence for aggravated rape in Louisiana is life in prison without the possibility of parole, probation or suspended sentence.
