#ShutItDown Protests at Harvard, California-Berkeley and Other Places Nationwide

The flagship school of the University of California system, California-Berkeley (in the Bay Area), has enjoyed a long history of being involved with, and often leading, student protest movements. Much like those days of actively opposing the Vietnam War and throwing support behind groups like the Black Panther Party, young people from Berkeley, Harvard University, California State University and other locales have given legs to the protest movement sweeping the nation in the aftermath of the Mike Brown and Eric Garner killings at the hands of local law enforcement in Ferguson, Mo. and Staten Island, N.Y., respectively.shut2
No photo was more dramatic, however, than when Eric Garner’s daughter (seen above) staged a “die in” at the very spot where her father was needlessly and tragically killed by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo in the choke hold seen — and heard — around the world.
With a legion of demonstrators representing a plethora of demographics, coupled with the backing of President Obama and the U.S. Department of Justice, the #ShutItDown movement is poised to bring about viable changes in the way police officers interact with, and enforce the laws against, the minority populations they are charged to protect and serve.
Take a look at some of the most dramatic photos from the movement that continues to galvanize the nation.
