Police accuse a suburban Atlanta man striking an infant baby boy twice in the face “very hard,” and shaking the toddler very hard, killing the baby.
Investigators charge have charged Cody Williams, 23, of felony murder in the death of 1-year-old Noah Nolan Monday evening.
Gwinnett County homocide detectives said Williams was watching Nolan at Sienna Heights Apartments, in the 1000 block of Graves Road.
For reasons that have yet to be revealed by police, Williams struck Nolan with the heel of his hands “very hard.” When authorities arrived on scene at 10 p.m., they said there were signs of physical injury.
The infant was taken to the taken to hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival, WSB-TV reports.
As a routine procedure, an autopsy will be conducted to determine exact cause of death that will be used as part of the prosecution’s case against Williams.
The mother of the child, whose whereabouts is yet to be determined by the media, is not expected to be charged in the case.
The Sienna Heights apartment managers released a statement about the incident:
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and our deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to the baby’s family. We are cooperating fully with the authorities as they investigate this matter.
