A pregnant Atlanta woman was reportedly robbed by almost a dozen teen thieves wearing bathing suits.
Jayla Morant is six months pregnant with her first child and was walking to the bus stop at 5:30 a.m. in East Point, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta, when several teen girls and boys wearing bathing suits walked up and surrounded her.
Morant said she counted three girls and seven boys between the ages of 17 and 20. She said the group of 10 robbers surrounded her and tried to steal her purse. She said all of them were wearing bathing suits.
She has the bruises on her now-swollen cheek, which she said were the doing of nearly a dozen robbers.
“The girl who tried to grab my purse had a bikini that was tied up on the back,” Morant said, according to NBC. “Where are they coming from? Let alone this many children at the same time.”
At first, Morant refused to let the robbers take her purse, which was across her shoulder and pregnant belly.
“I’m with child, so there’s no way I’m just not going to give up what I had or put my life in danger,” she said.
But when one of the robbers dropped a gun on the ground, Morant changed her mind.
They stole her cellphone and left the area.
According to a police report, one of the suspects fired the gun three times as they said, “Y’all can’t see me.”
Morant said she is glad she gave up the struggle when she did.
“That’s when I realized it was a loaded gun, and I’m glad I was able to make it home safe,” she said.
