(NNPA)—Ron Busby, the president of the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., backed on Friday Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker’s selection of Alejandra Castillo as the new national director of the Minority Business Development Agency.
“It is evident that throughout her professional career, she [Castillo] has been committed to the betterment of minority communities nationwide,” Busby said.
The U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., is one of the nation’s leading advocates for increased contracting opportunities and support for black businesses in the public and private sectors.
Castillo, who has served as deputy director, is the first Latina and second woman director to lead the agency.
Busby said Castillo’s expertise as a small-business owner and attorney also qualifies her to know what minority businesses need from the federal government.
“We have already begun on the right foot, working closely with Alejandra and her office to create tangible economic opportunities for minority businesses across the country,” he said.
