Basketball legend’s biggest assist is helping minorities

magic-johnson(NNPA)—When Earvin “Magic” Johnson starred in the NBA, there proved no better assist man than No. 32.

With seemingly great ease and the grace of a ballet dancer, the “Magic Man” helped turn ordinary players into stars and good players into great ones.

Today, at 54, the retired Los Angeles Lakers legend has built an empire in which the assists he dishes out are so much more important than the ones he issued on the hardwood during his playing days.

In an exclusive interview, the ever-enthusiastic Hall of Famer explained how and why his Magic Johnson Enterprises serves as a catalyst for driving unparalleled businesses for its many partners and how it’s fostering community economic empowerment by making available high-quality entertainment, products and services that answer the demands of ethnically diverse urban communities.

“I always knew that I was going to be in business, but I admit I didn’t know that I was going to be a businessman at this level,” Johnson said. “But it’s important to me that I afford African-Americans, Latinos and all minorities an opportunity and that is exactly what we’re doing.”

Johnson’s portfolio counts as one of the most stunning in the country, if not the entire world.
