Halloween, in its most harmless and creative form, is maybe the only day where people can be applauded for their outrageous style and creative ability.
Channeling their favorite movie character, popular culture setting or childhood memory, Halloween lovers capture what’s great about the day (other than candy). But in the spirit of Halloween attire, is there a such thing as going overboard, even if you’re a celebrity? The following are a few celebrity Halloween costume choices. They all are “interesting” to say the least, but for different reasons. A couple are a tad bit offensive, a couple “LOL” worthy, while others will probably make you say, “Come on man!” Before you finish designing your outfit for this year’s Halloween party, take a look and see if your designs are along these lines…so you can adjust accordingly.
Julianne Hough 2013 “Crazy Eyes”
Actress Julianne Hough and a group of her friends dressed up as characters from the hit Netflix series “Orange is the New Black”. The group was seen attending the Casamigos Tequila Halloween party in Los Angeles on Oct. 25, according to the LA Times. They were sporting orange prison-like attire, with the 25-year-old actress portraying Suzanne “crazy eyes” Warren, a character played by Uzo Aduba. Hough was photographed with her hair darkened and knotted up in balls (Like Aduba’s character), while wearing blackface and an id that read “Crazy Eyes.” This costume choice received a lot of criticism from people who saw the blackface as offensive and degrading. However, Hough said that she was a huge fan of the show, Aduba, and she offered an apology to anyone who was hurt or offended by her costume.
Diddy 2012 “Purple Rain, Purple Rain”
Music mogul and Entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs was definitely getting into the Halloween spirit. Never one to shy away from the spotlight, Combs was seen last year paying tribute to musical-icon Prince at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion party. The ‘Bad Boy’ founder channels the musician by wearing a jheri-curl wig, resembling outfit with Prince’s signature color (purple), black eye shadow, and a guitar for added effect.
Snooki 2010 “Pickle Princess”
Jersey Shore star, Nicole Polizzi, better known as Snooki took to Las Vegas’ Jet Nightclub as the Pickle Princess in 2010. Polizzi was hosting a Halloween costume contest at the club, according to wwd.com. She had the interesting wear designed for her, upon the arrangement of the club’s operators, The Light Group. Snooki’s attire featured a green mini-dress with sequins, green shoes, green cape, tiara and the symbol of her supreme pickle power: a royal septor with a giant pickle attached to the top. “Pickle princess is gettin saucy!” she later tweeted.
Pink 2008 “Tears of a Clown”
Singer Pink wore in a Polka-dot dress for halloween in 2008. The singer, who was said to be promoting her new album (at the time) “Funhouse”. She was seen also with orangey-red frizzy hair, and your typical clown-like makeup job. Don’t know if she was going for weird and scary, but the look is certainly leaning that way.
Heidi Klum and Seal 2006 “Forbidden Fruit”
Supermodel Heidi Klum and her former husband, singer ‘Seal’ appeared at Heidi’s 7th annual Halloween party as “Forbidden Fruit.” Seal portrayed, what appears to be Eve, while Klum dons an apple costume with a giant serpent replica, red and green high-heeled boots, with red and green stockings to match. Seal is pictured taking ‘a bite’ out of her, as he wears a blond wig and a costume of artificial leaves and vines. Let’s just hope this is the only way Seal was re-enacting the popular bible story.
Aaron Carter 2002 “Pimpin’?”
Pop singer Aaron Carter “rocks(?)” a pimp outfit on the red carpet of, what appears to be, a Toys “R” Us. Pictured is a then 14-year-old Carter posing in a purple “pimp suit” with Leopard-print lapels and pockets on the coat. A pimp? Really? As if it weren’t kind of bad and kind of tacky, wasn’t he kind of young. As if that weren’t enough, the outfit was complimented by prop earrings, a fedora-style hat with cheetah print, and glasses with money signs on the lenses.
