West End Medical Centers, officially changed its name to The Family Health Centers of Georgia, CEO and President Michael Brooks announced Monday.
“West End refers to a location. It no longer describes our level or service or the diverse community of patients we serve all over metro Atlanta,” Dr. Brooks said.
The new ID immediately lets anyone who sees it know there is more than one location in the system. The Family Health Centers of Georgia added locations to serve patients outside the radius of its original address as part of a strategic long-term plan.
The goal was always to bring quality healthcare to areas where it was most needed, he said. The system’s newest location at Lake Forest Elementary School, has made history as being the first school-based health center for Fulton County.
In addition to fixed offices, The Family Health Centers of Georgia also has a 41 ft. state-of-the-art mobile medical and dental unit that provides care within 50 miles of any one of its center locations. Residents in Bartow and Douglas counties have benefited from this.
The Family Health Centers of Georgia has benefited from a partnership with the GE. In 2010, GE welcomed FHCGA to its Healthmagination program (https://www.healthymagination.com/GE/.)
This ground breaking endeavor gave the community based health center an infusion of volunteers, leadership development and logistical support. GE Foundation awarded The Family Health Centers of Georgia $850,000.00 in grants to continue its mission to provide quality, affordable healthcare to the under and uninsured.
FHCGA has done such a good job of fulfilling its mission, during its 38 years of operation, that it became the first community health center in Georgia to earn the Primary Care Medical Home gold medal ranking by the Joint Commission. The Joint Commission is the most recognized healthcare accrediting agency in the country. FHCGA is only the second community health center in the Southeast operating with standards high enough to deserve this gold medal designation.
The Family Health Centers of Georgia, Inc.corporate headquarters is still located at 868 York Street in Atlanta’s West End.
