Reggie Bush Joins Barry Sanders and Billy Simms in the Record Books

Reggie Bush had a stellar debut as a Detroit Lion. He ran for 90 yards on 21 carries and had 4 catches for 101 yards. He is just the third Lions player to rush for 90 yards and have 100 receiving yards joining Barry Sanders and Billy Simms. Bush also had two rushing touchdowns taken away from him during the game after reviews showed him to be down.

Calvin Johnson also had another touchdown taken away from him due to the process rule. He made a diving catch in the endzone but the ball came loose as he stretched the ball over the goal line and hit the ground. It seems to be just bad luck that this rule continues to take touchdowns from Calvin Johnson.

Even with all the reversed touchdowns the Lions showed resiliency winning 34-24. Ndamukong Suh once again hurt the Lions with his recklessness. DeAndre Levy’s interception return for a touchdown was called back after Suh made a low block on a player who had no chance of catching Levy. He will likely be fined for the hit.

Initially, the Lions defense looked to be as bad as ever after Adrian Peterson went for a 78 yard touchdown on the Vikings first play. However, they were able to keep him in check for the rest of the game. After the first touchdown he was held to 15 yards on 17 carries.

The defense also compiled three interceptions and three sacks. They got great pressure on Christian Ponder and were able to shut the Vikings down in the 4th quarter. The Lions finally had a healthy secondary and it paid off this week.

One other important part of the offense seemed to be Joique Bell. The Wayne State alum rushed for 25 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught 5 balls for 67 yards. He looks to be an important part of the offense going forward. He is a nice power compliment to Reggie Bush.

Matthew Stafford turned in a good performance throwing for 357 yards and 2 touchdowns. His lone interception was due to a pass being tipped up by a defensive lineman. He produced without much statistical help from Calvin Johnson. He was able to hit Nate Burleson 6 times for 78 yards.

The tight end situation for the Lions could be a cause for concern if someone doesn’t step up. Brandon Pettigrew continues to fumble the ball and Tony Scheffler dropped a wide open pass. The only bright spot was undrafted free agent Joseph Fauria from UCLA. He caught three palls for 27 yards and a touchdown. The Lions play at the Arizona C
