Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless will be hosting their annual Back to School Jamboree on Saturday at Turner Field.

The organization will distribute back-to-school supplies to children in the Atlanta area from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Children will receive a backpack containing notebooks, pencils, rulers, books, glue sticks and more.

“The aim is to relieve some of the budgetary pressures that are on families who are already suffering due to lack of income or reduced income,” said Afemo Omilami, co-director of HFTHH. “What the average family considers a small thing is a huge burden on suffering families.”

HFTHH hosts this event to help children in need prepare for the approaching school year. Teachers can also pick up free supplies that they can distribute in their classroom.

Fresh produce and donated clothing will be available, as well as free health screenings. Live performances by Ministry in Motion, Taj, God’s Girls and more are also scheduled to take place.

“We are preparing for at least 3,000 children to show up,” said Omilami. “We want to serve as an economic reinforcement for families who are going through a tough time.”

Although the organization says this is the last big project of the summer, HFTHH has future events planned such as the annual Labor of Love Job Fair on September 5 at Turner Field.

“This is our third year for the Labor of Love Event,” said Omilami. “It’s becoming a huge event for the mere fact that people are in need of jobs.”

Donations of school supplies and clothing are still being accepted. They can be brought to the HFTHH warehouse at 1035 Donnelly Ave SW, Atlanta, Ga. For additional information about Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless please call 404-755-3353.
