Rachel Jeantel, 19, appeared on Piers Morgan Live in her first ever television interview to share how “disappointed, upset and angry” she was that George Zimmerman was found “not guilty” of murder for killing her friend, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, and called the verdict “just B.S.”

“He was a calm, chill, loving person who loved his family, definitely his mother, and a good friend,” Jeantel told Morgan.

Jeantel also reiterated that Martin was not a “thug,” talked about how race influenced the jury’s verdict and declined to comment on defense attorney Don West because she’s a “Christian.”

Jeantel was the last person to speak with Martin on the night of February 26, 2012, 5 minutes before he was gunned down by Zimmerman.

Jeantel said that Martin never disrespected or mocked her:

“Trayvon was one of the few guys, okay, and this is what, I mean, this ripped, tore my heart apart, ” said Jeantel’s attorney Rod Vereen. “She said he was one of the few guys that never made fun of me, about the way I dressed, about the way I talked, about my hair, about my complexion, you know, about my weight.”

The Department of Justice has confirmed that it is reviewing the State of Florida’s case against Zimmerman, as well as information gathered from their independent investigation to determine if he will face federal civil rights charges.
