Atlanta City Councilwoman Cleta Winslow was arrested and charged with driving under the influence late Tuesday night, police said.

An officer patrolling the area of Oglethorpe Avenue and Peeples Street in Atlanta just after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday “noticed a gray Honda Accord commit multiple traffic violations,” according to Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones.

The AJC reports that an officer stopped the Honda, and after talking to Winslow, who was driving, “he noticed that the driver showed signs of impairment,” Jones said.

“Ms. Winslow admitted to having a few drinks, but refused to do any field sobriety test,” Jones said.

City Council President Ceasar C. Mitchell released the following statement in response to the arrest.

“I am aware that Councilwoman Cleta Winslow was arrested by Atlanta Police on suspicion of DUI on the evening of May 7. This is a personal matter for Councilwoman Winslow, and the most prudent thing to do at this time is to allow the judicial process to take its proper course. My thoughts and prayers are with the Councilwoman and her family.” – City Council President Ceasar C. Mitchell
