‘Need for Speed’ to be filmed in Detroit this summer

Detroit will once again be the set of a Hollywood movie. The popular racing video game, “Need for Speed” will be filmed in Detroit this summer. According to the Michigan Film office, DreamWorks Studio has been awarded a tax incentive from the state of $1,370,852 on nearly $5 million of projected in-state expenditures.

The movie will focus on a street racer who goes on a cross country journey for revenge after being framed and sent to prison—and of course fast cars!

Originally, DreamWorks was only interested in using two local companies, Race Car Replicas in Clinton Township and Technosports Creative in Livonia to build cars for the movie.

In a press release from Margaret O’Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office, said:

Need for Speed was initially just looking at Michigan to do car builds for the film, but we were able to make the case that this was a terrific place to film the movie as well. This project fits so well into both our reputation as a great state for filmmaking and the automotive heritage Michigan is known for; it’s a strong investment all around.

“Need for Speed” is expected to employ over 100 Michigan workers which equals out to roughly 11 full-time positions.
