Starters Carry the Lady Panthers to Second Consecutive Conference Win

Four starters in double-digits carried the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers to a 66-60 conference win over Fort Valley State University at Epps Gymnasium Monday.

With a comfortable seven-point lead at the half, the Lady Panthers controlled much of the first period while captialilzing on 15 Fort Valley turnovers. CAU’s aggressive defensive stance produced 18 steals that helped propel the Lady Panthers to victory.

Erika Sumpter finished with her second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds followed by Conisha Hicks’ 14 points, 11 steals, seven assists and six rebounds. Other starters in double digits included La’Quisha Lewis with a game-high 16 points to along with Shavon Caldwell’s 10.

Fort Valley outrebounded the Lady Panthers 52 to 36 and committed 31 total turnovers in the game.

With the win, Clark Atlanta moved to 11-9 overall and 7-3 in the conference. Next, the Lady Panthers will travel to face Claflin University Thursday, Feb. 7, in a 5:30 p.m., match-up.
