Freshman pitcher Demarcus Taylor threw a complete game as the Clark Atlanta University baseball team split its season opening double-header 2-16 and 10-1 with St. Augustine’s College at Bill Evans Field Sunday.
Taylor, who recorded three strike-outs and only four hits, carried the Panthers from the mound in their game two victory. Junior infielder Kelvin Tanner had a game-high three RBIs including a double while Vincent Hembrick remained consistent at the plate hitting 3-of-4, one RBI and scoring two runs.
St. Augustine’s jumped out to an early lead in game one with seven runs in the sixth inning. CAU starting pitcher Manuel Gasper threw five innings while recording two strike-outs.
Next, the Panthers (1-1) will host Morehouse College Friday, Feb.8, at 12 p.m., followed by Virginia State Saturday, Feb. 9th, at 1 p.m. All CAU HOME baseball games are played at Bill Evans Field located at 3636 College Street, College Park, Georgia, 30337.
