With a game-high 24 points, junior Conisha Hicks led the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers to a 70-66 win over Claflin University while on the men’s side, the Panthers dropped their fourth consecutive game with a 65-48 loss to Claflin at Epps Gymnasium Saturday.

The Lady Panthers (7-8, SIAC 4-2) commanded the game from the start despite a late second half comeback from Claflin. Erika Sumpter and La’Quisha Lewis were dominate on both ends as they each recorded a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds from Sumpter and 10 points and 13 boards by Lewis. With both centers crashing the boards, CAU gained a slight advantage with 50 total rebounds compared to 45 for Claflin. Talaya Robinson topped Claflin with 22 points.

Staring at only a two-point deficit at the half, the Panthers of Clark Atlanta (2-12, SIAC 1-5) had a solid first half while shooting 44 percent (11-of-25) from the floor. But seven second-half baskets were not enough to rally a comeback in the period. Derrick Martin led CAU with 10 points off the bench and Kevin James chipped in nine.

Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers will host Miles College in a non-conference match-up Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m., in Epps Gymnasium. Both teams will host Paine College Saturday, Jan. 26, at 6 and 8 p.m.
