(CNN) — President Barack Obama took his wife, Michelle, out for dinner on her 49th birthday Thursday.
The couple dined at Cafe Milano, an upscale Italian restaurant in the Washington neighborhood of Georgetown.
The first couple was dining with friends, a White House official said.
Last year, they celebrated the first lady’s birthday at the steak house BLT, which sits just blocks from the White House.
Earlier in the day, the president met with the staff of the Presidential Inaugural Committee and thanked them for their efforts toward this weekend’s ceremonies, a White House official said.
Michelle Obama drew attention on Thursday when her office posted online a photo of her new haircut, which includes new bangs.
