Fulton County’s Housing and Human Services Department, Office of Children and Youth recently hosted a graduation dinner for 23 young Teen DADS – men who are Determined, Active, Dedicated and Supportive.
Since 2009, over 140 Teen DADS have graduated from the 24-week education and life skills program. The dinner featured an address by Morehouse College Dean of Freshmen Alvin Darden. The young men graduating from the program will be recognized for their attendance, participation, commitment and leadership qualities exhibited while participating in the program.
Teen DADS was created through a resolution sponsored by Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards, District 7, and supported by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners. Teen fathers receive education and career counseling as well as parenting classes. They are encouraged to co-parent with their children’s mothers to provide a positive environment for their children and prevent domestic disputes.
Additionally, the program encourages young men to bond with their infants. The program seeks to strengthen families by providing young fathers with the skills, knowledge and tools needed to meet the financial and emotional needs of their children.
